Unique Noble Trading Co. Ltd. Tuesday broken ground for a new cashew processing plant in Kampong Thom province as the world’s second-largest producer continues to expand the billion-dollar industry.
The province’s Deputy Governor Chea Vanchan said that the new factory was a timely investment in line with the Royal government’s policy to promote the cashew nut sector.
“The factory will contribute significantly to promoting the productivity of cashew nuts and people’s living conditions,” he said.
Unique Noble director-general Pin Phirom said the factory would process 30 tonnes of nuts a day and will create 200-400 jobs.
The factory will also process cashew apples and shells into oil and fertiliser, she said.
The factory is in Sala Popel village, Sala Visai commune, in Prasat Balaing district.
