The announcement was made during a gathering of stakeholders from across the food value chain in Kano State.

According to Manuel Murrenhoff, the Managing Director of Buhler, innovative technologies in grain processing, consumer foods, and other materials can play a significant role in tackling food security challenges. Buhler focuses on improving grain quality to cater to the growing population's need for affordable, nutritious, and tasty food.

Murrenhoff emphasized that the Nigerian market had huge potentials for growth, profitability, and export opportunities when innovative technologies were applied to locally produced grains like soybeans, millet, sorghum, maize, beans, groundnuts, and cashew nuts. He went on to explain that Nigeria, with its current population of 211 million, could secure its food security with the right innovation and machinery.

Ali Hmayed, Head of Buhler's Grain Processing Innovation Centre, explained the company's commitment to quality grain production and investment in a grain processing center and innovation center in Kano. The center will advance the grain processing industry in Nigeria and be equipped with state-of-the-art machinery for cleaning, sorting, de-hulling, preparation, tempering, and milling of local grains.

The centerpiece of the facility will be the high-compression Alpesa grinding system, supported by a lab and bakery setup for comprehensive analysis. Buhler allocates at least five percent of its turnover to drive innovation and promote food security and ensure food safety.

Introducing new technologies to revolutionize the Nigerian food commodity market will strengthen food security, boost exports, and provide affordable, nutritious food options to Nigerian people. With the right innovation and machinery, Nigeria can tap into its economic and commercial potential.
